At a ceremony to handover the refurbished ward to the management of the hospital, Mr Samuel K. Boafo, Head of Human Resource of Calbank said the bank since 2007 through its national service personnel have been identifying special need projects in society and contributing towards its realization.

He said giving back to society is one of the core mandates of CalBank and that the bank continues to ensure that all personnel who pass through it become ambassadors of the move.

He said the project was undertaken through contributions from allowances of the National Service Personnel.

Mr Julius Kuusaalesuo, the Deputy Director of Administration at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital commended the initiative by the national service personnel and appealed to them to adopt the facility and assist them with basic needs to help keep the facility running.

Miss Catherine Nueki Djangmah, President of the 2018/2019 national service personnel at CalBank said it was a delight and a dream come through for the team to have given a facelift to the facility.

She said the team changed the entire roof, from asbestos to aluminum, replaced where necessary wooden ceiling, redesigned entrance doors and locks and reconstructed the washroom, bath house and total replacement of water closets for both staff and inmates.

The team also changed the mesh wires, canteen, fixed new pipe lines to the bathroom, kitchen and the canteen and also provided  swivel chairs, desks and new floor tiles.

“We were touched by the plight of the nurses who provide healthcare delivery to inmates even with the limited resources and at the peril of their lives” she stated.
