Boards of state-owned media reconstituted

The National Media Commission NMC) has reconstituted the Boards of Directors of four state-owned media organisations, namely the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), the New Times Corporation (NTC), the Ghana News Agency (GNA) and the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC).

A statement issued by the NMC and signed by its Executive Secretary, Mr George Sarpong, said the exercise was done in accordance with Article 168 of the 1992 Constitution and Section Two (1) (e) of the National Media Commission Act, 1993 (Act 449) and in consultation with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

GCGL

The nine-member board of the GCGL is chaired by Professor Kwame Karikari, a renowned communications scholar, lecturer and consultant. He was also the chairman of the former board.

Other members of the board are Dr Rita Larsen Reindorf, Alhaji Mohammed Yusuf Twumasi, Dr Kwame Nyamekye, Mrs Ruby Ivy Austin, Mr Daniel Addai, Mr Paul Osei Barima, Dr Valentin Kwasi Mensah and the Managing Director of the company, Mr Ato Afful.

The new board will be inaugurated on Thursday, January 16, 2020.

GNA

The Board of the GNA, which will be inaugurated on Monday, January 13, 2020, is chaired by Professor Olivia Frimpong Kwapong, an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Adult Education and Human Resource Studies at the University of Ghana.

The other members are Mr Charles Acheampong, Ms Doris Adabasu Kuwornu, Dr Francis Grant Gbormita, Mr Peter Claver Nibepo Sangber-Dery, Mr Ransford Tetteh and the General Manager of GNA, Mr Albert Kofi Owusu.

GBC

The President of the Presbyterian University College, Ghana, Reverend Professor Emmanuel Adow-Obeng, maintained his position as Chairman of the GBC Board, which has eight other members.

The other members are Mrs Efua Ghartey, Mr Henry Kanor, Dr Sarah Dzane, Alhaji Alhassan Abdulai, Mr Samuel A.Y Debrah, Dr Charles Kwening, Mr Forson Osei Bonsu and Mr Yaw Obeng Owusu.

It will be inaugurated on Wednesday, January 15, 2020.

Times

On Tuesday, January 14, 2020, the new Board of the New Times Corporation, chaired by a former Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Very Reverend Ama Afo-Blay, will be sworn in.

Other members of the board are Mr Awuku Lokko, Mr Alex Kwadwo Boateng, Mr Albert Sam, Professor Kofi Quasigah, Dr Kweku Rockson, Mr Donald Gwira, Mrs Victoria Natsu and the Managing Director, Mr Frederick Amissah.
