The acting Director General of the Internal Audit Agency, Mr Ransford Agyei, has tasked audit committees of the various institutions under the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to ensure the efficient use of public assets and protection of the public purse.
In a speech read on his behalf during the inauguration of audit committees for health institutions of the GHS in the Upper East Region in Bolgatanga last Friday Mr Agyei said the committees were to help the various health institutions to comply with the Public Financial Management Act, the Public Procurement Act and all other financial laws and regulations which directed their operations.
He reminded the committee members to adhere to the guidelines issued by the Minister of Finance to ensure the effectiveness of the Audit Committees.
The Upper East Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Winfred Ofosu, said in nominating members to the various committees, the relevant provisions of the Public Financial Management Act, with respect to membership, were complied with strictly.
“It is our expectation that you will work with management of the various institutions to achieve the ultimate objective of improving financial management of the respective institutions" Dr Ofosu stressed.
Dr Ofosu urged the management of the various health institutions to make adequate provisions to support the committees in discharging their duties.
He expressed the hope that the work of the committees would help improve financial accountability and reduce audit observations on financial management infractions in the various health institutions to optimise efficiencies for the public good.
