Speaking on behalf of the group, the Paramount Queenmother of Mampong, who is also the President of the Association, Nana Agyakoma Dufie, expressed the association’s gratitude to the First Lady for helping in the construction of a new mother and baby unit at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, adding that they were confident the facility would help save and alleviate the suffering of countless mothers and children who visited the hospitail for treatment.

She noted that the First Lady’s initiatives across the country had benefited many, and as queenmothers, they would remember her for years to come.

She indicated that as queenmothers, their primary responsibility was to seek the welfare of their people, especially women and children, and, therefore, urged the First Lady to solidly support their efforts at fighting malaria, which they said was a major health concern for the region.

Improving lives of people

In her remarks, Mrs Akufo-Addo commended the queenmothers for their various initiatives and also urged them to persist in their quest to help improve the lives of the people.

She said as a mother and an advocate, she knew the dangers posed by malaria to women, children and the country as a whole, and would, therefore, continuously liaise with the appropriate institutions to ensure that the concerns of the queenmothers were resolved.

She noted that the government was working relentlessly to improve the living conditions of all Ghanaians and would continue to do so until all citizens enjoyed the benefits of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s good governance.

She thanked them for their support for the government’s efforts at addressing challenges facing their region and the country as a whole and asked them to remember the President and his appointees in their prayers so as to help them deliver on their promises.

In attendance at the meeting were a former Minister of Chieftaincy, Mr S.K Boafo; the Deputy Minister of Chieftaincy, Mr Paul Essien; and the Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Mr Stephen Amoah.
