Army officers mark silver jubilee with donations
The Ghana Armed Forces Regular Career Course 34 and Short Service Commission / Special Duties 33 have made donations estimated at GH¢100,000 to three institutions in Accra to commemorate 25 years since they completed their courses.
The beneficiary organisations were the Dzorwulu Special School, the 37 Military Hospital and the Ghana Military Academy and Training School (GMATS).

At the Dzorwulu Special School, the team had a mechanised borehole installed and the school’s washroom, which was in bad condition, renovated.
The 37 Military Hospital received bed sheets, hand sanitisers and detergents as well as four nebulisers in support of the children’s unit, while the GMATS was provided with two projectors and a deep freezer.
Silver jubilee
A member of the group, Colonel Richard Kinney, said on the occasion of the group’s silver jubilee it was reminded of a cardinal value learnt at the GMATS, “service to mankind,” and which guided it in selecting the three institutions.
He said some months ago, the group sent a team to the Dzorwulu Special School to identify challenges it was facing and lack of access to potable water came up as a major problem.
“The team got to the school and saw some of the children carrying buckets of water on their heads and we found this too difficult to deal with, hence the decision to get a borehole installed.
“The school’s washroom was also in a very bad condition, with many of the toilets blocked and abandoned. Now we have had the place renovated and given it a facelift to make life easy for them,” he said.
Commendations
The Assistant Headmaster of the Dzorwulu Special School, Mr Fredrick Tetteh, commended the team for their gesture, adding that the intervention would relieve the school of a major challenge it was facing.
At the 37 Military Hospital, the Chief Nursing Officer, Col. Josephine Osei-Vowotor, who received the hospital’s items, expressed her gratitude to the group, saying that the items would help meet some of the hospital’s needs.
For his part, the Commandant of GMATS, Major General William Omane Agyekum, who received the items on behalf of the academy, conveyed the school’s appreciation to the group for having it in mind even after completing 25 years ago.
