9 Killed in tricycle accident

Nine people on board a motor tricycle, popularly called “Azonto”, died yesterday when it was crushed by a Man Diesel tipper truck near Maame Kyerewaa Village on the Tepa-Goaso road.

Eight of the victims died on the spot, while the ninth victim was pronounced dead at the Tepa Cocoa Hospital where he had been rushed with another injured passenger for treatment.

Police briefing

The Brong Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Christopher Tawiah, told the Daily Graphic that the tricycle was heading towards Kwapong with nine passengers in its bucket, while the tipper truck, with registration number AS 5124 – 14, with two passengers on board, was heading towards Kumasi from Dadiesoaba.

He said while the tricycle was negotiating a bend on the road near Maama Kyerewaa Village it ran into the oncoming tipper truck, and got crushed.

ASP Tawiah added that the only surviving victim of the accident had been treated at the Tepa Cocoa Hospital and discharged, while the bodies of the deceased had been deposited at the morgue of the same hospital for autopsy.
