Twelve persons died Monday morning when a Ford mini bus they were travelling on collided head on with a cargo truck at Atiakrom near Mankranso on the Kumasi-Sunyani Road in the Ahafo Ano South of the Ashanti Region.
Police said their initial information pointed to the Ford mini bus, with registration number AS 7257—16 which was moving towards Kumasi veered off from its lane on the single road at around 12:40am and crashed head on with the loaded truck with registration number GR 2624—N.
Ten of the passengers on board the Ford died on the spot while two others who were seriously injured and were rushed to the Bekyem hospital were pronounced dead on arrival at the Duayaw Nkwanta Hospital where they were referred to.
Later in an interview, the Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Juliana Obeng confirmed the accident and said the police have commenced investigations into the incident.
She said the bodies have been deposited at a morgue in Mankranso while the only survivor is responding to treatment at the Bechem Government Hospital.
