Former Ghanaian ambassador chairs KUMACA past students' historic e-voting

The Kumasi Academy Past Students' Association (KAPSA-AKUNINI Global) has achieved another milestone after successfully conducting what could be the first-ever electronic elections by any past students' association in Ghana on a global scale.

The innovative electronic voting committee, chaired by Okunini Amerley Ollennu-Awua-Asamoa, a product of the school and Ghana's former ambassador to Denmark, oversaw the entire exercise.

During the association's 6th Congress, Okunini Awua-Asamoa expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to serve her alma mater, along with her four committee members, in ensuring a fair, open, and secure exercise.

The committee was responsible for compiling a voter's register, calling for nominations, verifying and correcting the register, vetting nominees, distributing unique voting credentials, publishing qualified candidates, allowing contestants to campaign, conducting the actual electronic voting, and declaring results.

The lack of centralized data for association members was the major challenge the committee faced, according to Okunini Awua-Asamoa, who urged the new administration to address this issue.

It is worth noting that exactly a week after the historic e-voting exercise, Okunini Black Sherif was celebrated by the association for winning the Artiste Of The Year at the 24th VGMA held in Accra on Saturday, May 6, 2023.
