"Our Day" is a custom in many Ghanaian schools where school children, mainly basic school pupils, bring their favourite foods and drinks on the last day of the term or semester for a feast before going for vacation.

Oswald's letter

It is based on this tradition that Oswald wrote to his mother to bring him provisions for the "our day" celebration, justifying his request that he did not disapoint her in his examination.

Oswald's mother, thrilled by the content of the letter, showed it to her boss at the office who also posted it on Twitter.

Following the post of the letter authored with a pencil, many companies, thrilled by the boy's request, visited the boy's school to donate items to enable him celebrate "our day."

What also appeared unusual in Oswald's request list was that of his favourite teacher, Mrs Appiah.

On top of his list, Oswald wanted a big coke for Mrs Appiah.

Oswald’s mother, Mrs Rita Gennuh, in an interview said Mrs Appiah helped Oswald to settle in his present school, hence his decision to demand a "big coke" for her.

Aside Oswald's letter which is trending on Twitter, Mrs Appiah is also trending, with many social media users, commending Oswald for remembering his teacher on his memorable day.

In an interview with Graphic Online, Mrs Appiah said, following Oswald’s letter, she has received a lot of bottles of coke from individuals and corporate bodies, and wondered how she would be able to drink them.

She described Oswald as a brilliant child, who loves reading and writing and always wanted to know more about things.
