Two Sonrise students win US$1000 award for excellent performance in WASSCE

 

The Sonrise Christian High School, a private school in Ho with partners in the United States of America (USA), has awarded US$1,000 to two final-year students who excelled in the West Africa School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) last year.

Master Rena Kwasi Norvor won US$700 of the amount while Master Godwill Hadzinu had US$300 as the first runner-up.

The award was sponsored by Clarence and Valle Richmond of Searchy Arkansas in the USA.

Presenting a plaque ahead of the awards at the sixth graduation ceremony of the school, the Administrator of the school, Mr Joseph Dzamesi, said the award was specifically designed for the payment of the first year university admission fees of the recipients at an accredited university.

Mr Dzamesi said the school had chalked up very impressive results in the past three years, adding that out of the 80 students presented for the WASSCE in 2011, 99 per cent of them scored at least aggregate 24.

The Guest Speaker from the Department of Physics, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr Leonard Amekudzi, said it required self-discipline, focus, sustained effort, vision and above all self-motivation to achieve set targets in life.
