The Asante-Akim South District of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has held its inter-school competition for basic schools in the Ofoase circuit.
Some of the events that the primary and junior high school (JHS) students competed in were soccer, netball, volleyball and athletics.
The competitive nature of the games drew a lot of involvement of the teachers and townsfolk who thronged the Ofoase town park.
Participating schools included the Police-krom Primary and JHS, Mamponteng Primary School, Dansabonso D/A JHS, Dansabonso AME Zion Primary School, Yaw Sarfo Primary School, Ofoase D/A Primary and JHS, Anthony Primary and JHS (Ofoase), Ofoase R/C Primary School, Ofoase Presby Primary and JHS, God is King Preparatory School (Ofoase), Methodist Primary and JHS (Ofoase), Islamic Primary School (Ofoase), Yaw Bronya Presby Primary and JHS and the Police-Krom Islamic Primary School.
At the end of the events, the Ofoase Methodist JHS won the trophy for soccer at the JHS level while Dansabonso AME Zion Primary School won the Primary Category with the Yaw Bronya Presby JHS winning the overall trophy for the athletics competition at the JHS level.
Ofoase Islamic Primary also won the overall trophy for athletics at the Primary level while the Ofoase D/A JHS was victorious in the netball competition at the JHS level.
In the netball contest at the primary level, the Police-Krom Primary showed class over all the others. The Yaw Bronya Presby JHS won the volleyball in the Boys’ Division at the JHS level while the Dansabonso D/A JHS emerged victorious in the volleyball meet in the Girls’ Division at the JHS level
Bernard Savi of Yaw Bronya JHS was adjudged the goal king and Best Player in the soccer competition.
The Circuit Supervisor, Mr Kyeremanteng Hagan, in his closing remarks encouraged pupils to take their studies seriously since modern sports goes hand in hand with academics.
