Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates who completed school in 2013, 2014 and 2015 but could not enter any senior high school (SHS) or technical institute (TI) for various reasons have been given the opportunity to choose SHS/TI of their choice to enroll this year.
This follows the release of re-entry forms by the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) to all metropolitan, municipal and district education offices of the Ghana Education Service for such candidates.
The Systems Administrator of the CSSPS, Mr Kwasi Anokye, who made this known to the Junior Graphic, said the opportunity was for candidates who completed basic school both within and outside the country during the years under review.
According to Mr Anokye, the candidates have up to July 31, 2016, to pick up, complete and return their forms.
“Candidates who completed junior high schools in Ghana are to purchase the forms at GH¢5 while those who completed school outside (foreign candidates) will buy their forms at GH¢50,” Mr Anokye said.
Interested candidates, he said, were required to attach their results slips to their forms when submitting them.
Mr Anokye said the re-entry opportunity was to give all candidates the chance to have access to second cycle education since some of the candidates could not enter SHS because of financial challenges or other reasons when they first sat for the exams.
CSSPS being reviewed
Meanwhile, the GES has given the opportunity to stakeholders including the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), Parent-Teacher-Associations (PTA), old students, churches and traditional authorities to make some input into the CSSPS.
The move was part of efforts to review the CSSPS so as to improve upon it.
The stakeholders, it was learnt, made some suggestions on how to deal with the issue of oversubscription of schools such as the Wesley Girls’ High School, delay in the release of withheld BECE results, 30 per cent quota system, protocol admissions, among other things.
According to Mr Anokye, proposals made by the stakeholders were being studied by a committee which would submit its report to the Minister of Education, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.
