Kumasi Girls’ SHS show class

The Kumasi Girls’ Senior High School confirmed its status as the hub of Ghana’s female hockey talents when it defeated the St. Louis Senior High School in the final of this year's inter-school hockey championship in Kumasi.

Nicknamed, K Gee,  Kumasi Girls SHS produced a spirited performance to end the fairy tale showing of St. Louis SHS with a lone goal to lift the trophy.

The captain of the winners, Sarah Addai, crowned an excellent afternoon to win the Best Female Player of the three-day competition, which was played on a grassless pitch in Kumasi. 

Currently, K Gee boasts of dominating all the national teams, especially at the Under 17 level. 

Star player, Elizabeth Opoku, a member of the senior national team and a student at the University of Ghana, Legon, has been the main attraction of the sport in her former school.

In the boys’ category, Prempeh College beat Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School in the final, albeit on penalty strokes. 

The match ended goalless but Prempeh College won 4-3 through the strokes (penalties). The captain of Prempeh College, Morgan Derry, was crowned the Best Male Player.
