As part of activities marking the festival, all learners of the German language throughout Ghana will perform on stage during the German Language Competition segment. Indeed, the 2015 edition of the festival is all about football.

The German national team is the current football world champion while the Ghana Black Stars was the only team that could not be defeated by Germany in the tournament.

Beginners will present one of two poems:  Elfmeterschießen or Im Stadion. Intermediates will present either the rap Fußballgott by the band, Fettes Brot, or the song Schwarz und weiß by popular German singer, Oliver Pocher.

Advanced proficiency level participants will present the sketch, Das Maskottchen or they can sketch themselves about a situation when fans from opposing teams watch a match together.

Also on the bill, is a competition in the category of “scenic representation of songs and poems”, as well as in “sketches around the ball. The participants will be judged based on their accomplishments in creativity, costumes, linguistic performance and their presence on stage.

Over 500 German learners from different institutions are expected to particip[ate in the  event. Students will perform in the categories of competition that they have prepared for under their teacher’s guidance at their various schools.

The festival is aimed at motivating students to learn the German language and enjoy being part of a community of learners of German. Indeed, there are many people in Ghana who successfully learn the German language.

The Ghanaian Association of Teachers of German (GATG) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) are hosting the festival, which is being sponsored by the Goethe-Institut in Accra.
