The cook-off dubbed, “Onga Regional Cooking Competition” formed part of the weekly tasks of the 10 delegates and it offered the young ladies the opportunity to prepare the dishes that best represent their respective regions.

The pretty ladies were split into four groups for the contest which was supervised by Moon Sangmor, host of Onga Food Tour on TV.

The first cook-off saw Ruth Awunyo(Brong Ahafo), Josephine Boateng(Ashanti) and Samira Mohammed(Eastern) take-on Angela Abletor, Cindy Kofie and Claudia Akolam who represented the Upper East, Upper West and Northern regions respectively.

The ladies from the Brong Ahafo, Ashanti and Eastern regions were adjudged victors after preparing a dish of Kontomire and Apem while their ‘opponents’ prepared Tuo Zaafi and Ayoyo soup.

The second cook-off involved Veronica Mills and Farida Rinnie representatives of the Western and Central Regions taking  on Greater Accra and Volta regional contestants, Nuratu Kassim and Sylvia Ama Owusu.

That contest was declared a tie by Ms Sangmor after she tasted the Etew and Fante Fante prepared by the Western and Central Region ladies and Akple, Okro soup and ground pepper which was served by the ladies from Accra and Volta Regions.

Talking to the Daily Graphic, Ms Delphine Brew Hammond, Director of Events and Operations of Miss Tourism Ghana, explained that the contest was designed to expose the foods that the various regions had in common.

"We wanted to show how united we are as Ghanaians in terms of our food culture. It also gave the girls the opportunity to learn about other regions."

She also disclosed that the 2015 Miss Tourism Ghana finals, which is slated for Friday, August 7, at the National Theatre will see the winner drive home a brand new TATA Vista car and an opportunity to compete in the Miss Tourism World.
