Ghanaians appreciate "useless" songs – Epixode

FOR many years now Dancehall artiste Epixode, has been trying hard to penetrate the music scene with good, conscious songs but unfortunately, he has not been able to get the success he wants.

And after his experiences in the industry, Epixode says he has come to the conclusion that "useless" songs are rather more appreciated than positive ones.

“I am not saying all the songs we listen to are useless but the majority are and it is unfortunate we hail such artistes and forget the good ones who are doing proper music.

"Artistes like Wiyaala, Worlasi and Trigmatic should be top musicians in Ghana but they are not. I don’t want to mention names but the kind of artistes we praise in Ghana will not get us the recognition we need outside.

“It is the Wiyaalas, Trigmatics, Sherifa Gunus, Ayisobas who will get us international recognition because they truly represent Ghana,” he told Graphic Showbiz in an interview on Thursday, May 28.

According to Epixode, he will not be forced to change his style just to be popular. “I would prefer a few people listen to my music and enjoy what I do than to have a lot of people following me for doing useless songs.

"Now some discerning Ghanaians have come to appreciate real good music and I'm glad the system is changing gradually,” he stated.

Epixode challenged Ghanaians musicians to be versatile and be themselves instead of following one particular trend.

“It saddens my heart when I see artistes all following one trend because a particular artiste is making it. We can do better than that. Our songs are sounding the same and it is about time we thought outside the box,” he added.

Epixode has released songs such as Wahala Dey, Mene Woa, Dear Mama, Won Di, Jehovah, My Girl, Fire, Dutty, Not Your Business, Big Up and Pure Water.
