Victoria rocks the runway

What is it about modelling that tall pretty model Victoria Michaels cannot do without?

Is it  the money, fame or just a hobby?  “All that I thought about since childhood was to become a great model in Ghana and beyond sharing the stage with top class models”, the near six foot lady told Showbiz last Monday.

Victoria, the pretty Ghanaian whose mother hails from Anomabo in the Central Region is so crazy about modelling that she places career above any other thing; not even a husband.

“I don’t know what will make me quit modelling. Quitting modelling will be suicidal for me because all what I think about is rocking the runway in the newest outfits by great designers” she said.

Victoria who has had the opportunity to model at London Fashion Week, Dubai Fashion Week, Ghana@50 Gold Show, US Fashion Week, Glitz Fashion Week, FIMA Fashion Week, Dark & Lovely Hair Fashion Show among others said it saddens her that models in Ghana are not given the right treatment they deserve.

She said that unlike South Africa and Nigeria where models are treated special and paid so well, the situation is different from Ghana. “I feel sad when I see young models who have taken modelling as a fulltime job  not living comfortably as they should.

Talking about  how she got into modelling, Victoria said one day, she had closed from lectures at Alliance Française when she was approached by a French man who thought she had the looks and the figure to be a  model.

As nervous as she was, Victoria was encouraged to participate in a Miss Francophone Ghana Beauty Pageant in 2005 and was surprised to have placed second.  She then met the late Kofi Ansah who featured her in Glitz Fashion Week and then things began to rise for her.

Today, Victoria  is Brand Ambassador for Woodin, Bel-Aqua mineral water, Africa Fashion Week; London, Ariels Haven Spa and  Melcom Group of Companies.

Curiously, Victoria finds it a big challenge modelling in bikini. According to her, her Christian values do not allow her to expose some parts of her body adding that it is not as if she cannot do it but she will simply not do it.

Born to  Mr. Michael Ibemasi and Madam Gladys Ama Obues, Victoria had her first degree in Marketing at Central University College, Ghana, before moving to the Ghana Institute of Journalism where she studied Mass Communication. She also has a Diploma in Proficiency in Written Outspoken French at Alliance Français.

She has won many awards for her works. In 2014, she was honoured by Ovation International as its first Angel of Hope Award recipient. She also won Potential Super Model Award and Lifetime Achievements Awards by Africa Media Networks.

Victoria is an enthusiastic social change advocate. Her passion for women and children’s education led her to the establish the Victoria Michaels Foundation – a non-profit organisation seeking to empower women and less privileged children across Ghana.
