The play tells the story of Rome more than  two thousand years ago when it was a republic ruled by elected leaders. Then came a man called  Julius Caesar who was murdered for attempting to  abolish the republican system in order to make  himself king.

His killing unleashed a series of relatives onto the scene who all had their own interests to pursue but do they also suffer a fate similar to Ceasar’s?

The Theatre Mirrors drama group was established in 1986. Based at the Citizen Centre, Asylum Down in Accra currently with over 25 active members, the group has produced acting stars such as Kalsoum Sinare, Emmanuel Armah and Nat Banini.

Tomorrow, September 12 will be time for the National Drama Company to put on a Wole Soyinka play titled Childe International.

Slated for 7:00pm, the production raises troubling questions such as whether it is wrong to aspire to be wealthy or if it is wrong to imbibe someone else’s culture.

The cast for Childe International which is being directed by Dr. Grace Adinku includes experienced players like Edinam Atatsi, Ato Ghartey and Joseph Quao.

The National Drama Company takes to the stage again at 7.00pm on Saturday, September 13 with Sackey Sowah’s Firestorm play.

Adapted by Dzifa Glikpoe, Firestorm is the story of Akyaa, a young unmarried woman, and a handful of girls banished from their village for refusing to marry men chosen by their parents. They protest against the subjugation of women in marriage and continue their revolutionary activities in the bush.

One night they venture into the village and kidnap a girl to be married against her wish. The king enraged by this sheer audacity, orders the arrest of the girls with the intention to condemn them to death.

Agnes Panfred,  Mawuli  Semevo, Joycelyn  Kumah,  Pamela Karikari and Tweneboah Kodua are part of the  Firestorm cast.

There will be daily productions in the main auditorium of the National Theatre as part of the Ghana Theatre Festival which ends on October 4.
