The work is about the lives of tenants in a compound house in Ghana. They come from different ethnic groups and each one constantly tries to stress the superiority of the values of the areas they come from.

Mamavi, a young woman from the Volta Region, falls in love with Adjetey, who hails from Greater Accra, to the annoyance of the rest of the tenants.

The lovebirds are confronted with several challenges but they stick to each other in a way that teaches everyone about the essence of unity.

According to the writer, the conflicts and ethnic tension that exist across Africa inspired him to write the play.

“The goal is to use romantic love as an element in preaching peace and togetherness,” he stated.

Nii Ayi Solomon’s arrival on the theatrical scene is another testimony of   how several young people have taken to drama to express their creativity this year.

From last January till now, young writers such as Kobina Ansah (This Family Is Not For Sale), Kadmiel Kweifio-Okai (The Doctor’s Pill), Anita Oduro (ATM) and Nene Osiedu (Take It Or Take It) have all had their plays produced.

“It signifies that theatre is truly  on the ascendancy and I urge more young people with some flair for  any aspect of  drama production  to go on and express what they  feel,” Ms Rebecca Lindsay, who teaches drama to children, told The Mirror.

The production of The Love of Mamavi is from 7.30pm and the writer has promised the audience a good night of music, poetry and drama plus free drinks at the gate.
