Talents throng Accra ‘Dance With Peter’ auditions

Talented youth hungry for the advertised prizes in the Glo ‘Dance With Peter’ project were last Tuesday in serious mood to impress the judges and book their places in the main competition expected to come off in Lagos, Nigeria  from September 12.

The project, which is aimed at identifying, nurturing and rewarding the best dancers in Ghana and Nigeria, is being spearheaded by Peter Okoye, one of the P-Square duo, himself a highly acclaimed dancer.

The auditions had many young Ghanaian dancers hitting the dance floor in a bid to grab a spot in the six slots given Ghana in the final contest which would be  a gruelling 13 weeks of teaching, mentoring and programmed elimination that will eventually throw up the top three winners.

The eventual winners will smile home with cash prizes and brand new cars. The best dancer will coast home with GHc45,000, a brand new Toyota RAV4 and a rare opportunity to feature in P-Square’s next music video.

The first runner-up goes home with GHc30,000 and a brand new Honda Civic car while the second runner-up will have the sum of GHc15,000 and a brand new Kia Rio car.

There are other numerous consolation prizes for others, including Glo subscribers who will participate in trivia contests.

Peter Okoye disclosed at the event venue in Accra that he was excited at the huge response of dance talents in Ghana.

“This shows that dance is gaining better acceptance all over. We are proud to work with Glo in fishing out the best among the talents that  gathered with a view to giving them a good platform to work on their passion,” he said.

“I have been a little shocked myself that we have very good talents who hardly have the platform to take their passion to a higher level and build a career out of it. We are aiming at this with a rich faculty of dance experts and instructors,” he added.

Some of the contestants who spoke during the auditions expressed happiness that such a project came their way from Glo Mobile and a member of the P-Square.

James, a student who just got admission to read communications in one of the universities in Accra, said he was hopeful of being selected from Accra as he had always taken dance as part of everyday life.

The competition is open to individuals from different dance backgrounds, be it solo, duet or group. Viewers can monitor the competition phase weekly on TV3.
