Social media reacts to Akuapem Poloo's 90-day jail term
Social media is buzzing after actress Rosemond Brown popularly known as Akuapem Poloo, was given a 90-day jail term for the publication of a nude picture of her with her seven-year-old son.
An Accra Circuit Court presided over by Ms Christiana Cann, sentenced her on Friday, April 16.
She was convicted on Wednesday, April 14, by the court after she changed her plea from not guilty to guilty to all three charges preferred against her.
She was charged with publication of obscene materials, engaging in domestic violence namely a conduct that in any way undermined another person's privacy or integrity and engaging in domestic violence namely conduct that in any way detracted or was likely to detract from another person’s dignity and worth as a human being.
She made her first appearance in court on November 19, 2020 where she pleaded not guilty.
When news of her conviction broke, many celebrities including rapper Sarkodie; singer Efya and actress Lydia Forson all commented and appealed for pardon triggering a #FreeAkuapemPoloo trend on social media.
And after her sentencing, social media is once again awash with comments from celebrities and other personalities many of who indicated the punishment was too harsh.
Citi FM presenter, AJ Sarpong wrote on Twitter: "3 months imprisonment? Talk about killing a fly with a sledgehammer. Hmmmmm..."
She added, "What good will her being imprisoned do for anyone? What happens to the child that she is the single parent to? Why take the parent that actually raises the boy away for 3 months when she could’ve done community service and actually done good in society to pay her penance?
