Shatta Wale issues cease-and-desist warning to political actors

Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has issued a cease-and-desist notice to individuals regarding the use of his songs, pictures and brand in any political campaign activity.

The musician who in the past performed at the 2016 National Democratic Congress rally, in a Twitter post reiterated his position that he will only support and cooperate with whoever is elected President.

He posted: "Moving forward ..no one should use my picture or my brand on any political campaign or platforms. Myself and my loyal fans will support and cooperate with any person who Ghanaians elect as their president..," Shatta wrote in a tweet.

Nana Dope, a member of Shatta's management team confirmed to GraphicOnline in a telephone interview that the warning includes the use of his songs in political campaigns.

It will be recalled that Shatta also performed at the celebration rally of the New Patriotic Party in the aftermath of the 2016 elections.

In the US, such warnings have been issued against US President Donald Trump by musicians who don't want their music played at his events.

Many artists including Rolling Stones, Queen, Rihanna and Neil Young have even sent cease-and-desist notices, which are essentially warnings that demand a specific action be stopped or else legal action will be pursued.
