Top-rated Ghanaian Dancehall act, Shatta Wale, will be in the United Kingdom from May 20-21, 2016 to be part of the Oxford Africa Conference, a leading interdisciplinary conference on Africa delivered by a team of Oxford University students.
Confirming this to Graphic Showbiz, the PR Manager for Shatta Wale and Shatta Movement, Chris Koney, revealed that the artiste will be part of a panel discussion on May 21 and will speak on the topic: ‘Through a different lens, on a different beat: African art and societal change’.
According to Koney, Shatta, real name Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jnr, will also be part of the after-party scheduled for the 02 Academy, Oxford and open to the expected 500 participants at the conference and students as well.
"It’s a great exposure and an opportunity to add to the intellectual discourse in the changing work of global music. As part of the rebranding process, it is important to strategically position the brand and we feel such an opportunity comes with lot of benefits," he added.
The Oxford Africa Conference brings together heads of state, policy makers, business leaders, academics, artists, students, and professionals to critically expand the discourse on Africa.
In its sixth year running, the Conference will provide a vibrant platform for new thinking about a global Africa across all disciplines – politics, society, business, technology and academia – connecting intergenerational leaders from around the world to shape an integrated and innovative perspective on Africa’s future.
The Oxford University Africa Society has provided community, thought leadership, and a platform for discussion of and engagement with contemporary African issues for over 50 years.
The society hosts speakers across disciplines, artists, movie screenings, discussions, and social events centered on Africa and its diaspora throughout the year.
In another development, Showbiz has gathered that team Shatta Movement is gearing up to launch Shatta Wale’s new album, titled After The Storm, with a concert at the Independence Square on Friday, April 29, 2016.
Songs expected to be on the album include already-released hit singles Hol It, Kakai, Mahama Paper, Reality, Zenabu and a few yet to be released songs.
