Salsa and Azonto beget ‘Salzonto’
It is official. Close-Up Salsa Fiesta has this year given birth to Salzonto, the newest dance on the block, made possible by the new infusion into the competition now called Freshness Dance Revolution.

The revolution basically involves easy-to-learn salsa moves fused with local contemporary dances. The choreography has won considerable admiration as the Close-Up Salsa Fusion Dance tour made stops at Takoradi, Kumasi and Accra.
Given its fusion with popular local dances such as Azonto and Alkaida as well as good old Ghanaian highlife, the revolution dance has become accessible to many more people and they have been given very interesting names.
Salzonto (Salsa + Azonto), Salkaida (Salsa + Alkaida), Salhighlife or Sallife (Salsa + Highlife), Salchoman (Salsa + Chowman) and Salmezop or Salzop (Salsa + Mezop). These have been recorded and loaded onto www.youtube.com/closeupghana and www.facebook.com/closeupghana with tutorials for easy learning.
The addition of various local dances to salsa has added much excitement to salsa and for the first time, Ghanaians can boast of heavy local influence in a dance which has been considered as foreign. This is very innovative and certainly deserves an award if there was a dance awards scheme in the country.
The salsa fusion dance is without a doubt the newest release of fresh breath of air into our social circles, adding to the already existing formation dances that stir up excitement at social gatherings. And it fits into Close-Up’s desire to renew its image and reach out to more young people who are eager to try out something new, as well as the many who are young at heart.
Staying true to its tag-line, “3x fresher breath and the confidence to draw closer”, the dance remains fundamentally a partner dance, for male and female which requires fresh breath and close up promises all day freshness.

The grand finale of the Close Up Freshness Dance Revolution comes off at the Independence Square next Friday, August 22, and will feature Sarkodie and Edem. Admission is free.
