“Perfect match Xtra” TV reality show in Ghana is an insult to our moral principles - NCC director

The Director for Policy Planning, Research, Monitoring and Evaluation at the National Commission on Culture (NCC), Dr. Richardson Commey Fio has expressed concern over the Perfect Match Xtra Reality Show, asserting that the nature of the content is an insult to the moral principles of the country.

According to him, authorities cannot disregard the nature of the programme, which perpetuates a culture that prioritises immoral entertainment and expect to produce a generation of disciplined, morally upright leaders.

The reality show which is an initiative of Media General, started in May 2023.

Contestants are housed in the quest to find a perfect partner, all of which are shown live on television.

Five matched couples battle for nine weeks inside a single structure using a range of strategies and tactics to woo their ideal match.

Dr. Fio Commey is of the view that the nature of the show displayed various elements of immorality that are an insult to the very basic principles of the Ghanaian culture and authorities cannot look on until the worst happened.

“This “Perfect match Xtra” show by TV3 is a time bomb waiting to explode. You can choose to disagree with me, but I can assure you that the realities of the ripple effects will soon blast on our faces… and sadly, it won’t be a pleasant one.

“This is a blatant attack on our core cultural values and norms. The decency and dignity of Ghanaian men and women have been thrown to the dogs. Must we just copy anything in the name of modernity and trends? Is it the kind of result we envisaged in the name of media freedom and human rights? I weep for our dear nation,” he stressed.
