Our marriage is renewable —Joyce, Dr UN on four-monthly deal

WHEN most couples tie the knot, it is their desire that the union will go the long haul and will last till death separates them, but not newlyweds Joyce Dzidzor Mensah, former AIDS Ambassador and her husband, Kwame Owusu Fordjour aka Dr UN.

For the couple, who got married about a fortnight ago, their marriage is renewable every four months which they believe is flexible and gives them the option to opt out if they want to.

While many people believe their marriage is a hoax, the love birds claim what they have is an innovation they want to introduce.

“Although we are married, ours is a contract which we will renew every four months. We think that will help a lot because we are both busy people. I live and work in Germany and he is busy with other things here.

“Our ‘contract’ marriage will help a lot so that any of us can leave the union when we are not okay with the other. We will not renew the contract when we want out. This is not to say that we don’t love ourselves”, the couple told Graphic Showbiz in an interview on Tuesday, October 4, 2022.

Throwing more light on their love journey, the two said they had been friends for a while.

They were introduced by a common friend of theirs.

They however fell in love when they realised they shared common interests.

“Someone actually connected us but after that, we took it to another level and here we are as husband and wife. We intend to make the marriage work and prove to Ghanaians that we are not joking. Our love is genuine and we are crazy about each other”, Joyce Dzidzor said.

A lot of Ghanaians have doubts about their marriage but the couple said they didn’t care about what Ghanaians thought and that so far as they loved each other, no one could come between them.

“We have heard the worst ever since we announced our marriage. Some say we are two mentally ill people coming together and the marriage will not last but it takes two to make it work and we are determined to do just that. Instead of Ghanaians trying to destroy our marriage,  they should pray for it to last,” they said.

The couple have received bad press at certain points in their lives which has taken a toll on their lives but they have been able to overcome.

For her part, Joyce said she had not had it easy and was even suicidal at some point.

“There were times I felt like just ending my life and be free because the insults were just too much for me to bear but I thank God that did not happen”.

According to Dr UN,  he had been through a lot after organising his supposedly fake UN Awards.

“I have been beaten twice because Ghanaians said I organised a fake awards scheme. No one has taken the opportunity to go behind the scenes to find out what went into the awards but have concluded I am a scammer; which is so bad. I am no scammer,” he said.
