Nothing wrong with celebs endorsing political parties - Kwaku Manu

Kumawood actor Kwaku Manu has said he sees nothing wrong with celebrities endorsing political parties.

According to him, celebrities need to survive. “I will not endorse a political party but I don’t have any problem with a celebrity doing so because they need to survive.

"Most of them don’t have side jobs and with the coronavirus affecting everything this is the right time for celebs to make money from the politicians especially as we approach elections,” he told Akwasi Aboagye on Entertainment Review on Peace FM last Saturday.
                                               
Kwaku Manu was reacting to a story by Graphic Showbiz in its Thursday, July 16 edition in which veteran actress, Grace Omaboe, popularly known as Maame Dokono, urged celebs not to make their political colours public.

Maame Dokono said the repercussions, should the celebrity's preferred party lose, were dire citing her own negative experience as an example.

In his comments, Kwaku Manu also pleaded with the fans to go easy when they see their favourite star endorsing a political party.  

“The fans don’t really know what we go through, they think once we are on TV it means we are rich. Some of us go through hell, the reason why we endorse a political party.

"Before coronavirus our movies were- not doing well and with the virus bringing everything to a standstill I believe the celebs have every right to endorse a political party,” he said.
                              
Kwaku Manu also warned celebs to desist from living fake lifestyles just to impress their fans.
 
“Most of the celebs live fake lifestyles and that is the reason why are suffering. They need to let the fans know their current state so they if anyone wants to offer any help they can do so. Living beyond your means is not really important,” he stated.
