MUSIGA releases album of peace songs
Songs by 14 musicians have been included in a compilation by the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), to help promote peaceful and credible elections this year.

The songs which range from Traditional, Gospel, Highlife and Reggae to Dancehall were selected by a three- member panel chaired by Bessa Simons. Other panel members were Rev Dr. Thomas Yawson and Mrs. Diana Hopeson .
According to the Administrator of MUSIGA, Rev Fiifi Khan Agyarkwah, the compilation forms part of activities by the Union, under its STAR-Ghana sponsored campaign, to help sensitise the public towards a violence-free and credible, peaceful Presidential and Parliamentary general elections in November.
The artistes and their songs in the collection are: Next Generation Gospel Ministry (We Need Peace), Esther Freeman (Peace), Kweku Duffour (Asomdwee), Nyameba Asamoah (We Need Peace), Joe Beecham (Shed No Blood), Hayford Tenkorang (Peace) and Offe Collins (Peace).
The rest are A.K Songstress (No War), Elly Boy (I Don’t Need No War), Bismark Amezuke (Azumdwele), Cano Z (No War), Abu Sadick (Ndumaa), Celestine Donkor (Peace and Harmony) and Iwan (No War).
“The songs came from all over the country because musicians realise they have a lot of influence on the public when it comes to advocacy for peace. They see music as a useful tool for national cohesion and that is really dear to their hearts,” said MUSIGA’s Head of Communications and Special Projects, Ahuma Bosco Ocansey.
MUSIGA is also at the finishing stages of recording an all-star peace song. Artistes included on the project are the Tagoe Sisters, Daughters of Glorious Jesus, Knii Lante, Blakk Rasta, Iwan, Ras Kuuku and Adane Best.
Meanwhile, the union’s nationwide peace walk to promote the need for peaceful elections starts today, June 9, in Tamale, the capital of the Northern Region.
The walk will take place along some of the principal streets in the city and end with a peace forum at the Centre for National Culture.
From Tamale, the MUSIGA Peace Train moves to Bolgatanga on Friday, June 10 and Wa on Wednesday, June 14 before heading to Sunyani on Friday, June 17.
The second leg of the peace walk starts in Takoradi on June 23 followed by Cape Coast on June 24 and Kumasi on June 28 before heading to Ho on July 7. It moves to Koforidua on July 9 and climaxes in Accra on Wednesday, August 10.
