Kumasi hosts Luv Schools Reunion

It was all fun and reminiscing at Luv FM’s tenth Skuuls Reunion activities held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi last Saturday.

The programme which has become an annual event for schools in the northern part of the country saw lots of schools turning up for the event.

Aside the usual jama, gari soaking and ‘eba’ eating competitions, the schools also took part in a 100 metres race, five aside football matches and table tennis.

The most interesting part of the whole event was the jama competition segment which saw halls from the mainly the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), University of Cape Coast and University of Education Winneba (UEW).

As usual the rivalry that has existed between the fellows of Katanga Hall and the Titans of the College of Agriculture Education of UEW was again evident and but for the wise decision of the Titans to withdraw from the Jama competition, another story would have been told.

There was a near violent confrontation between the two halls when the lads from Katanga Hall forcibly pushed the Titans out of the way as they made their entry to the stadium, the venue for the event.

The act resulted in one of the Titans sustaining a knife wound to his left arm and to avoid any confrontation, the Titans decided to withdraw from the competition to avoid anymore problem.

The Spartans from Winneba who had won the competition for four consecutive times in the past, again came out winners  and went home with a printer, a webcam donated by Oman Fofor and some products from Nestle Ghana and Tigo, headline sponsors of the programme and Accra Brewery Limited.

The Spartans shred the competition from the likes Katanga Hall who were the loudest and came with the largest contingent, Casford and Atlantic Halls from the UCC and Liberty Hall from the Kumasi Polytechnic.

Later in the evening, Obrafour and Kwaw Kese put up some splendid performances to thrill the crowd.

It was also an opportunity for upcoming artistes to showcase their talents and there were lots of these artistes who mounted the stage.

Some of them had to be dragged off stage due to the lyrical content of their songs which the organisers found to be too explicit.

In all, it was all fun except for few excesses exhibited mainly by the all males halls that took part in the programme such as a contest of nudity  between the lads from Katanga and Casford Halls.
