If there was any award for the MTN Pulse Turnup concert held at the Accra Sports Stadium last Friday, Jupitar would have ran away with it.
Not even the big names- Samini, Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, Kaakie, MzVee, Alkaline and Kranium who were hyped up for the event were a match for him when he took his turn on stage.
Jupitar, who was not advertised as part of the line up of artistes performed for only 30 minutes but put up such a thrilling show that patrons kept screaming his name long after he had exited the stage.
Performing live with the Patch Bay band, there was never dull moment during his act as he kept patrons on their feet with songs from his repertoire such as Enemies, Fire, Money Box and Freaky Gyal.
Sporting a black suit, Jupiter interacted with patrons by asking them to rap a few lines from his hit song Enemies. He also did a lot of free style which the crowd really enjoyed and it was obvious they wanted more even as he made way for the next artiste.
It was obvious something was not right when Stonebwoy mounted the stage. It was just so not like him. Although the Baafira hitmaker was on stage for one hour treating his audience to Can’t Cool, Shekina, Go Higher and Run Go, his performance lacked its usual feel.
He however explained during his act that he was under the weather. According to him, he had undergone surgery and had been advise by his doctor to rest but because of the love he has for his fans, he could not do that but make an appearance.
The two female dancehall artistes Kaakie and Mzvee on the bill did well to out do each other on the night. it seemed each of them had to prove why the dancehall queen title should be bestowed on them. It was however difficult to 'crown' any of them since they both did well to entertain.
It seems the night was not for Samini. He was booed a few times while performing and tried as he did, he did not seem to hit it off with patrons. But when he did a bit of Kakai by Shatta Wale just before he ended his act, the crowd went into a frenzy and sang along with him.
There is no doubt majority of patrons were there because of Shatta Wale and there were a lot of fireworks when he took his turn. He performed for over two hours trating patrons to Chop Kiss, Mahama Paper, Hol It, Zenabu, Like My Thing, Dancehall Commando, Dancehall King among others.
An excited Shatta had the crowd singing along to almost all his songs but he was still not a match for Jupitar.
There were also performances from Episode, Rudebowy Ranking, Iwan and Ras Kuku.
The two Jamaican artistes Alkaline and Kranium did not live up to their hype, while Elephant Man did not make an appearance.
Also, security at the event organised by Fantasy Entertainment was nothing to write home about as military men heckled people. Even some of the artistes billed to perform had to struggle to enter the venue.
