Haduwa takes arts to Apam

The Haduwa Arts and Culture Institute has started free workshops in various artistic disciplines for young people from Apam and its environs in the Central Region.

Graduates from the School of Performing Arts of the University of Ghana, Ehalakasa performance artistes and other volunteer instructors are taking the young people through dance, drama, music and spoken-word poetry.

The workshops will culminate in a multi-disciplinary production to be staged at the institute at Apam in November.

“We believe artistes are social servants with an obligation to reach and impact their community with hope,” said Benedict Kojo Quaye, also known Sir Black, a key figure in the Ehalakasa arts movement and a co-ordinator for the Haduwa workshops.

The Haduwa Institute was opened in September 2014 and has since hosted international workshops, projects and artistes from around the world.
