Game of Thrones season 7 ends with aplomb, season 8 back in 2019

This season of Game of Thrones has been a nightmare for the producers and for the cable channel HBO as well as their partner stations across the world who have latched on to this monster of a television series to sell to advertisers.

Hackers had no mercy on the content that seems like the most sought after television series in the history of television series. While it was still in production, loyal viewers were always looking forward to when it would come back and when it did many were happy.

The hackers were also happy as they hacked the systems of the broadcaster and placed them on the internet for people to download. Game of Thrones is perhaps the most downloaded television series and several episodes of season 7 may have beaten its own record of downloads.

Viewers had the content days before it would air on HBO every Sunday for the past seven weeks. Back home, the only platform that had the rights to show it was DStv which used its premium channel 101 to show it on Mondays at 9:30pm.

The coverage by DStv this season was better than before. It showed when it was planned to and subscribers did not have to wait for it to be on Catch Up alone before they watched it, something that didn’t help much in the previous season. What many viewers frowned upon was the deletion of sex scenes from the episodes. Save the last episode where Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen made love.

Content wise, this season’s was top notch with epic battles from the fourth episode upwards. The producers “killed” some notable characters, especially holding it to the very last episode to give Arya Stark the job of killing the most notorious schemer in the series of schemers, Lord Baelish.

Some say it didn’t end well, I think it did with the breaking of the wall that protected the north of Westeros from the army of the undead or White Walkers.
This was an awesome season with a big statement at the end that winter had finally come! From what we hear, the next season won’t be ready till 2019 and we have the patience to wait.

IS NANA AMA AGYEMANG ASANTE MISUNDERSTOOD?

Depends on what your mood is, on what you believe in, on your political persuasion, on how good or bad the morning traffic is or even on which side of the bed you woke up, Nana Ama Agyemang Asante could be your best friend or your worst enemy.

She has the ability to say things that would make people hate her more than the Catholic Church hates Martin Luther or the Jews hate Adolf Hitler. It would seem from afar that she is wired to do such things and gets her thrills from doing just that.

Over the last few years, the morning show on Citi FM has become a very key part of many people’s morning show listening list. On its long journey to the top of the slippery post, the station did a lot of trials with different formats and eventually found this informal discussion style of running the show.

One of the people who would play a key role in ensuring that this style would work was Nana Ama Agyemang Asante. She was part of the panel that comprised Richard Dela Sky and Nhyira Addo who along with host Bernard Avle spoke their minds on issues as they would deem fit without a care of who would feel hurt.

Along the line they had Kojo Akoto Boateng joining and then Nhyira would leave and Kwaku David joining and Sixtus Dong, Ullo and so on. In all these goings and comings Nana Ama Agyemang Asante and perhaps Sky have been the constant, besides Avle of course.

She has what you would describe as an acid tongue and an attitude that perfectly suits the things that come out of it. She says what she thinks she should say and hope people would just go get a life or find something else to do with it.

She has strong views on almost every topic. She is passionate about issues that have character of corruption. She is a feminist and does not hide it. Thus when issues of such come up she talks about them without looking over her shoulder or care about who may be listening.

This posture has given her a lot of bad vibe. Some people see her to be arrogant and yet others see her to be ignorant and they both would give you reasons why they think so.

Those with the arrogant perception hold the view she doesn’t differentiate between when she has to show respect and decorum and when she should not while those with the ignorant perception think she likes to talk about and make categorical conclusions on subjects she has no knowledge about.

This week for example she has been in the eye of the storm on social media when something she is purported to have said about her father’s view on who not to marry was construed by some as her own view about other tribes, especially Ewes.

There have been other times when people have taken her on strongly both on social media and other forums where people have taken very unkindly to what she may have said on radio and thereby “giving” it to her in equal measure.

The question that needs answering is whether Nana Ama is misunderstood by people or that because of what says, most of which some people would not like or would disagree with, people try to target her whenever she says something unpleasant.

Lets’ face it, sometimes I cringe at not just some of the things Nana Ama says, but how she goes about saying them. However, we all have to come to the realisation that in the democratic space we should not agree with whatever people say, but we have a responsibility to respect their views.

Nana Ama’s views may be acidic sometimes, caustic at times, but those are her views and we need to agree to disagree with her. And, yes, we don’t have to understand her to agree or disagree with her, for she is @Justnanaama, as her Twitter handle says.
