EDITOR’S LENS: Celebrating Rocky Dawuni

As Ghana continues to strive to be relevant players on the global music stage, it is imperative that we recognise and support our music ambassadors who are putting the country on the global map. One such individual is the talented Rocky Dawuni who has been flying high the flag of Ghanaian music internationally.

Rocky Dawuni's fourth nomination for the prestigious Grammy Awards is a demonstration of his hard work, dedication and passion for music.

Since 2015, Rocky Dawuni has held the fort for Ghana at the Grammys; unfortunately, the support has not been loud enough as it should particularly when this feat does not only bring pride to Ghana but also highlights a positive image of the country’s music sector.

The Grammys come off in February, 2025 and this time round, Ghanaians must come together to promote and celebrate our own. We should pray for him and rally behind Rocky Dawuni to win the prestigious music award not just for his personal achievement, but for the pride and recognition it will bring to Ghana.

However, Rocky Dawuni's success is not an isolated incident. There are many other talented Ghanaian musicians who are making significant contributions to the industry.

Talk of musicians such as King Promise and Stonebwoy who have relentlessly shown interest in the Grammys by submitting their works for consideration.

Failing to get the nod should not create room for them to be ridiculed, as Stonebwoy has been subjected to in the last few days when he was not nominated. Graphic Showbiz believes it is essential we support and celebrate these individuals not only when they receive international recognition but when they consistently work to project the image of Ghana.

Also, the media, particularly music platforms, should prioritise showcasing Ghanaian music and talent. By doing so, we can create a thriving music industry that encourages growth, innovation and excellence.

Let us rally behind Rocky Dawuni and the entire Ghanaian music fraternity. Let us celebrate our own and provide the necessary support to help them shine brighter on the global stage.

Together, we can make Ghanaian music a force to be reckoned with.
