The show, which marks the 20th anniversary of the gallery, also formed part of events for the just-ended Celebrating Accra Festival that  inundated the nation’s capital Accra with a variety of concerts and other performances.

Participating artists in the exhibition are Prof. Ablade Glover, Benjamin Offei Nyarko, Bill Mensah, Emmanuel Kissiedu, Frank Asomani, Gabriel Eklou, George Hughes, Godwin Sowah, Kofi Agorsor, Kotei Tetteh and Kwabena Poku.

Others are Kofi Setordji, Larry Otoo, Kwabena Nyarko, Nii Teiko Tagoe, Robert Aryeetey, Wiz Kudowor, Seth Clottey (Ghana), Chief Zacheus Oluruntoba and Yomi Momoh (Nigeria).

The works, which form part of the Artists Alliance Gallery collection, reveal a broad spectrum of contemporary art in Ghana, its motivations, as well as inflections by the artists that have helped place Ghana on the world art map.

Collectively, they showcase a dramatic mix of abstraction, expressionism, figuration and realism that captures elements of urban lifestyles while making restrained hints to tradition and culture.

Characterised by a wide range of colours and manipulated pigments, some paintings on display without doubt point to modernistic trends and tend to be quite expressive.

Artists Alliance Gallery, which was established by the internationally-acclaimed painter/academic, Prof. Ablade Glover, has over the past years exhibited works by several celebrated artists including the Nigeria-based Ghanaian master, El Anatsui.

The exhibition was opened by Hon. Fritz Baffour, member of Parliament for Ablekuma South.
