The Accra Youth Choir is set to launch its maiden album tomorrow, September 21, at the Bread of Life Methodist Church in Dansoman. Titled Hwehwe Nyame, the album is a collection of 12 choral songs, some of which are renditions of traditional Ghanaian songs which audiences will be familiar with as well as some original compositions by members of the choir.
Some of the original compositions on the album are Waseda ye bebree by James Varrick Armah, Se na Nyame do me by Theophilius Sakyiama, Mentuni me dewase arranged by Enoch Boahena.
Other composers whose songs appear on the album include Tsemafo Arthur, Sam Asare Bediako and Ohene Adu Nti.
In an interview with the Daily Graphic, the Assistant Organiser of the choir, Felix Odartey Lamptey, revealed that the launch of the album is meant to raise awareness on the group as well as to showcase their unique singing ability.
He added that the choir was established to thrill music lovers through folk and patriotic songs as a way of instilling patriotism in Ghanaians as well as to spread the word of God to the world through their melodious repertoire of songs.
He said that the group would also use the launch of the album to raise funds to purchase some needed instruments to enhance the work of the choir.
The launch will be graced with some inspiring musical performances from the Winneba Youth Choir, Tema Youth Choir and the host choir, Accra Youth Choir.
Founded in 2006 under the leadership of Mr Edmund Ellis Ekuful, George A Cofie and Francis Mensah Boakoe., the Accra Youth Choir is a non-denominational choir based in Dansoman.
