Tigo launches Digital Change Makers

Tigo Ghana has launched its third entrepreneurship programme aimed at identifying and empowering young Ghanaians with innovative digital solutions to step forward and help solve some of Ghana’s most pressing needs.

The program which has been dubbed “Digital Change Makers” is in line with Tigo’s strategy of promoting a digital lifestyle where social entrepreneurs are encouraged to step forward with the best digital technology ideas that can greatly impact the lives of children and Ghanaians generally.

The two top winners for Digital Change Makers will each receive a funding grant of $20,000 (GHS60,000) and the needed expert guidance and support to bring their ideas to life.

This was revealed by the Chief Executive Officer of Tigo, Mrs Roshi Motman in Accra.

“Starting from today, 3rd November 2014 to 1st December 2014, we are encouraging all social entrepreneurs to step forward with the best digital technology ideas that can create a bigger impact to the lives of children and Ghanaians,” she said.

She noted that Tigo as a digital lifestyle brand believes that mobile communication technology can address some of the most pressing challenges and improve the lives of people hence the support to digital entrepreneurs in Ghana to create a digital transformation.

“For the past three years, Tigo has supported social entrepreneurs across various sectors, this year however we are looking to support social entrepreneurs with innovative digital ideas hence the emphasis from change leaders to Digital Change Makers”, she added.

She said the programme will be looking out for the most innovative digital idea that can impact and provide genuine solutions to problems facing children at a great scale, while at the same time promoting connectivity and access to communications, particularly in rural communities in the country.

Present to officially launch the Digital Change Maker was the Deputy Minister of Communication, Mr. Edward Ato Sarpong, who commended Tigo Ghana for investing and believing in the youths of Ghana.

He noted that, government through the ministry of communications is creating the enabling environment to assist stakeholders in the technological development the country.
