Africa Oil Upstream conference opens in Cape Town

Oil business interests around the world are attending the Africa Oil Upstream conference considered the largest gathering of oil and gas experts on the African continent, in the South African city of Cape Town.


The conference which officially opened Wednesday assembled about 1,500 delegates including government  delegations and speakers from across the continent who would address various issues in the oil and gas industry.

Ghana's Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Mr Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, is also expected to attend.

Over 135 exhibition booths have been displayed to showcase products and services of the various oil companies.
 
Opening the conference, the Chairman of the Board of Global Pacific & Partners, organisers of the conference, Dr Duncan Clark, welcomed delegates and urged them to use each other's experiences in the industry to improve the lot of their respective companies.

Fortunately, he said, this year's conference marked the 20th edition (20th Africa Oil Week 2013) and that called for celebration in view of improved economic growth in Africa notwithstanding the evident difficulties.

He explained that the aim of his outfit was to provide an event of rich-content with the highest quality, good networking and social interface for all to create and cement relationships that would shape the future for oil and gas in Africa and the economic future of the continent.
