Zenith, GCB are most cashless and e-zwich banks

The Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems (GhIPSS) has commended Zenith Bank and GCB Bank for winning the Cashless Promotion Bank of the Year and E-zwich Active Bank of the Year, respectively, at the 15th Ghana Banking Awards.

Cashless agenda

Zenith Bank leads other banks in the promotion of the cashless agenda, while GCB Bank leads the e-zwich drive. 

The cashless promotion and e-zwich active bank of the year awards were supported by GhIPSS as part of efforts to encourage banks to drive the electronic payment agenda.

Ecobank and Stanbic Bank were first and second runners-up for the cashless promotion category, while UT Bank and Ecobank were first and second runners-up for the e-zwich active bank category.

GhIPSS, which was set up by the Bank of Ghana, has a mandate to migrate Ghana into an electronic payment community. Since its establishment, the GhIPSS has rolled out various initiatives that have experienced significant growth in patronage.

In an interview, the Chief Executive of GhIPSS, Mr Archie Hesse, noted that the banks which won in the two categories had been playing lead roles in the promotion of the various electronic payment products and services.

He expressed his gratitude to all banks and urged them to do more, saying the business development potential of the electronic payment products were enormous and encouraged banks to tailor those products to suit their business offerings and the needs of customers.
