The fifth Tema Excellence Awards 2014 has been held at a ceremony in Tema with a call on residents to project the image of Tema despite the recent alleged contract killings.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Tema Excellence Awards, Mr Kofi Poku, noted at the awards ceremony that the scheme was aimed at commending the efforts and contributions of the leaders of Tema and to encourage the youth to emulate the good and hard work of such personalities.
He said the contributions of such personalities had improved the socio-economic development of the country, hence the need to reward them to serve as a platform for others to be guided.
He further added that the awards would be held annually to showcase the good deeds of such personalities.
The Chief Executive Officer of Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), Dr Alphonse Kwao Dorcoo, was among one of the gold award recipients. He was presented with a citation enumerating his enormous contributions, including being the patron of the Tema Tennis Club, an elder of Kekeli E. P. Church and a selfless personality who was always ready to give and support the needy and the destitute.
Other award winners included Mr Ekow Manly Span, Mr Basa Simons, Mr Ampem Darko and Adjoa Pee
