The reason many people never achieve their dreams and aspirations is because they simply give up on their way up the ladder, forgetting that perseverance is a great element of success.
To reach the top, one must be prepared for a struggle and that is the philosophy of one of Ghana’s successful entrepreneurs.
Mr Kofi Dadzie, who founded and currently heads Rancard Solutions, an electronic solutions provider, encountered constant struggles, with extreme lows and highs.
Speaking on the weekly motivational talk show, the Springboard, on Joy 99.7 FM, Mr Dadzie underscored the need for Ghanaians to persevere in order to attain success.
“The challenge with some of us is that we get tired through practice more often and we end up forgetting our goals,” the CEO indicated.
Critical factors
Mr Dadzie’s appearance on the show was the second edition of a new series: ‘Critical Success Factors,’ on the show.
It is aimed at providing a platform for informed discussions on the key critical factors that drive success in people’s lives.
The series is expected to inspire and motivate audience across the country to emulate and imbibe the successful life stories of people and use them to better their lives.
Mr Dadzie urged Ghanaians, especially the youth, to play hard in whatever role they found themselves in order to win in life.
“If you play to win, then you evolve what is called entertainment, leisure, exercise to learning how to win in life. If you play to compete, then you are learning how to win in life,” he said.
He added that playing hard was the way of practice in real life, given that the manner in which a person practises the profession or craft chosen was a key contributor to success.
Explaining further, the Randcard Solutions CEO said constant practice was a key ingredient for anybody yearning to be successful, irrespective of the person’s area of operation.
He said practice was important to a carpenter as it was to a medical doctor.
Everyday practice
He noted that although people may be gifted with talents, only practice would help unearth that gift fully.
“So, if you are preparing a group of students for exam, being able to stick to their studies every day and being able to press them to keep going on and on every day until the level of perfection is achieved, is a success factor,” he said.
He said one of the notable features in attaining success in life was through partnership, explaining that there were different kinds of partnership in terms of career development.
Therefore, partnership is a very crucial aspect in life, because it provides people with the tenacity required to persevere and attain success.
“Partnership includes people holding you to the goal; the people, may be mentors, parents, a boss or a friend, who will see that the right thing is done in order to attain the desired goal,” he said.
Intricacy of mediocrity
He identified frustration as one of the challenges that could impede a person’s success and further called on people to find innovative ways of dealing with it.
He said most at times people who felt frustrated with something always quit.
Going forward, he said it was very crucial for people to follow one particular agenda or course until they reached their destination.
“We often do not have the courage to take the risk and stick with our conviction and persevere with them until we are successful. We are very quick when we face adversity to set it aside for a plan ‘B.’
But there is a time in a person’s life that you must stick to one thing and do it to perfection,” he said.
Explaining further, he said a back-up of a plan ‘B’ on a convicted plan ‘A’ always assures the failure of the plan ‘A’ because the individual involved will by then focus his or her time and attention on something else he or she could be doing at the same time, and added that there were times when a success factor was determined by dedication to a particular direction.
Predict change
Mr Dadzie said it was very important for Ghanaians to predict change rather than allowing themselves to fall victims of change which will end up posing challenges to their dreams.
“In life, those who really win are those who create change and own it overtime. So, adaptability is almost the final input to enable a person to stay focused on his or her plan,” he stated.
He added that integrity was key to success and should, therefore, not be underrated.
“Integrity means telling the truth, keeping your promises and taking responsibility for your mistake. However, in this part of the world, telling the truth has been hammered into us, and keeping your promise is one of the things we struggle with, especially when you make big promises, but taking responsibility for your mistake is one of the key factors of leadership,” he stressed.
