Real estate developers have been challenged to help fix the housing deficit in the country.
The Managing Director of the Graphic Communication Group Limited (GCGL), Mr Kenneth Ashigbey, said Ghanaian real estate developers had the wherewithal to close the housing gap in the country, and urged the players in the industry to assist in that direction.
Mr Ashigbey, who made the call when the Managing Director of UT Properties Limited, Mr Kojo Kwakye Owusu, led a management delegation to pay a courtesy call on GCGL in Accra, said: “We can only develop our country with professionals and committed individuals. We cannot sit and watch foreigners develop the country for us.”
The collaboration would be based on harnessing the competitive advantage of each company to ensure that the public become aware of the woes affecting the industry and also become ultimate beneficiaries.
Housing sector challenges
Mr Owusu said the housing industry in Ghana had been confronted with a number of challenges which had impeded the success and rapid delivery of housing in the country.
Some of these challenges, he said, were poor urban and city planning, poor regulatory frameworks, land acquisition and documentation problems, lack of necessary funds to build and expensive mortgages among others.
Mr Owusu said as stakeholders in the housing industry, UT Properties has the passion to complement the efforts of the government and other private sector players to bridge the housing gap in the country.
