Jobberman Ghana, Airtel partner Facebook on free Internet

Jobberman Ghana, a jobs website, has partnered Facebook and Airtel to bring all the latest jobs to the general public through an internet application that will enable free access to some websites.

The application, internet.org, will enable people to access information on jobs, finance, education and health without paying data charges on the Airtel network.

Sites such as Facebook, Jobberman Ghana, BBC News, Messenger, Wikipedia, Baby Centre and MAMA and SuperSport, are among the sites that can be accessed for free.

Jobberman.com.gh, which is the jobs website accessible on the app, said in a press statement that the cost of accessing the Internet was a barrier to many jobseekers since they could not afford data bundles.

“It is in the light of this that we are partnering Facebook to bring relief to jobseekers who are unable to buy data bundles to access internet services for free to help improve their lives,” Jobberman CEO, Mr BabaJide Otoki, said in a statement issued in Accra.

Jobberman.com.gh matches employers with jobseekers through the Internet and provides effective tools for recruiting talents for employers.

The jobs giant currently has about 7,000 employers and 300,000 jobseekers who access the Jobberman website.

For their part, Airtel Ghana’s Managing Director, Lucy Quist, said, “Our partnership with Facebook, which brings their internet.org mobile app to Ghana, opens up more opportunities for the millions of people to stay connected and grow their potential from the wealth of information available on the Internet’’.

“We have invested heavily in upgrading and expanding our network over the last few years to provide access to information in all areas including remote and rural populations in Ghana. We are proud that we have the second largest network in Ghana with the fastest 3G experience driven by our powerful 3.75G. This partnership with Facebook will make it easier for people to access basic Internet services, “ she said. 

The Vice-President of internet.org at Facebook, Chris Daniels, said, “Following the launch of the internet.org app in Zambia and Kenya, Facebook is excited to continue its partnership with Airtel to bring the internet.org app to Ghana. 

As part of Facebook’s internet.org app in Ghana, Airtel customers will have free access to: AccuWeather, Baby Centre & MAMA, BBC News, Ebola Information by UNICEF, Facebook, Facts for Life, FunDza, GhanaWeb, Girl Effect, Jobberman, Messenger, News24, Scholars4Dev, SuperSport, Tonaton.com, Wattpad, and Wikipedia.
