Graphic Business journalist nominated for agric award
A Staff Writer with the Graphic Business, the financial newspaper in the stable of the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), Mrs Ama Achiaa Amankwah Baafi, has been nominated for an award in the upcoming Open Forum Agricultural Biotechnology (OFAB) media awards.
The OFAB Media Awards, which is slated for Monday, September 2, aims at recognising exemplary journalism that stimulates best practices in the adoption of agricultural technologies, particularly agricultural biotechnology.

Mrs Baafi would be honoured together with other print/online, radio and television journalists who have contributed to discussions on the agriculture sector in Ghana.
The OFAB Media Awards provide an opportunity to enhance knowledge-sharing and awareness creation of agricultural biotechnology that will raise understanding and appreciation of the technology and contribute to building an enabling environment for informed and timely decision making.
Mrs Baafi has carved a niche for herself by researching and writing on the agricultural sector for the Graphic Business since she joined the team many years ago.
The awards
The Open Forum Agricultural Biotechnology, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) with focus on agriculture, will host the third edition of its media awards for journalists reporting on agriculture in Ghana.
The yearly awards scheme, which was instituted in 2017, aims at recognising exemplary journalism that stimulates best practices in the adoption of agricultural technologies.
The awarding criteria will be based on key considerations such as the scientific accuracy in reporting biotech related stories, initiative, originality, clarity of interpretation and value in fostering a better public understanding of agricultural biotechnology and its impacts.
The organisers of the awards scheme believe that with agriculture, science and technology being an integral part of Ghana’s development agenda, journalists play a key role in helping the country to achieve the desired results in the field of agriculture.
Background
The OFAB, an initiative of the African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF), is a platform that provides an opportunity to enhance knowledge-sharing and awareness creation of agricultural biotechnology.
The OFAB Ghana engages with various stakeholders during conferences, workshops, and stakeholder meetings, to bridge the gap between scientists, policy makers and the public.
Mrs Baafi’s laurels
Mrs Baafi also emerged as the Best Reporter in Agriculture Reporting (Print category) at the 23rd Ghana Journalists (GJA) awards last year.
She was also given a special recognition award at the 2018 Flamingo awards for Business Journalism of the Institute for Financial and Economic Journalism (IFEJ) which seeks to recognise business and financial journalists whose quality reports are influencing policy for growth and development in Ghana.
