Experts discuss digitisation at Graphic Business/Stanbic Bank forum

Experts in financial technology, the digital ecosystem and academia will explore the opportunities available to businesses in the sector tomorrow at the Graphic Business/Stanbic Bank breakfast meeting in Accra.

The theme for the breakfast meeting is ‘Digitisation: The key to unlocking the Ghanaian dream’.

The panel members comprise the Director General of the National Information Technology Agency (NITA), Mr Richard Okyere-Fosu; the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Technology (GCT), Dr Augustina Odame; the Chief Executive  Officer of Hubtel, Mr Alex Bram; and a Professor of Finance at the University of Ghana, Legon, Prof. Godfred A. Bokpin.


The team has been strategically drawn from the public sector, private sector and academia to discuss how the country could use regulations, policies and education to harness the talents of the youth to accelerate growth in the digital ecosystem.

It will be the second in the series of the thought leadership conference initiated by the Graphic Business, the country’s leading business and financial newspaper and Stanbic Bank Ghana Limited, a premier lender, to collate ideas on critical national issues.

The forum will be held at the plush Labadi Beach Hotel at 7.00 a.m and will be streamed live on the social media accounts of the Daily Graphic as well as broadcast live on JOY FM and JOY News.

Okyere-Fosu

The DG of NITA holds an Executive Master of Business Administration from the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) and a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the Kingston University, London, United Kingdom.

He has over 25 years working experience in the public and private sectors in Ghana, the United Kingdom and the United States of America (USA).

His most recent work experiences in the country include being a Technical Advisor for ICT at the Ministry of Finance where he advised the Minister for Finance on ICT matters from October 2017 to December 2019.

Augustina Odame

Dr Odame is an economist and a technology consultant with broad expertise and experience in financial technology and payment systems, as well as business set-up and regulatory compliance processes across Africa.

As CEO of the GCT, she spearheads the chamber’s efforts to engage and leverage strategic partnerships to create an enabling environment that supports technology companies in Ghana to attain their fullest global potential and impact.

She also champions the realisation of the government’s digital transformation agenda in an inclusive and sustainable manner.

Alex Bram

Mr Bram heads Hubtel, the country’s largest payments and electronic commerce service provider that processes more than a million transactions daily.

The company recently launched in Kumasi as the first-ever financial technology company to open an experience centre in the country.

Godfred Bokpin

Prof. Bokpin is currently the Dean of Student Affairs at the University of Ghana. He is an economist and Professor of Finance with over 15 years of practical industry, government and multilateral engagement.

He combines three broad disciplines of Accounting, Finance and Economics and the interrelations between them in his teaching and research that uniquely distinguishes his output with over 50 impactful refereed journal publications across these disciplines.
