Politicians have been called upon to always endeavour to undertake programmes and projects that will address the needs of their constituents.
Miss Queenstar Pokua Sawyerr, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Agona East and Deputy Central Regional Minister, made the remark at Agona Kwanyako, after she had provided financial assistance to women in her constituency to enable them engage in income-generating businesses.
The MP deplored the situation where politicians only saw their constituents as important during elections when they approached them for their votes.
“Everybody can serve people, but our positions constitute platforms that carry some influence that should benefit our people; so we must serve them,” Miss Sawyerr said.
The MP has put together what she calls the “Maame Pokua Loan Scheme,” aimed at providing soft loans with flexible payment plan to women to enable them to either expand or start their businesses.
The maiden event attracted hundreds of women who got wind of the news to the Cocoa Shed at Agona Kwanyako to go through the process of accessing the loan.
At the end of the exercise, over 250 women had access to the loans to enable them set up their businesses and effectively manage them.

Addressing the women, Miss Sawyerr said the GH¢100,000 to be given out as loans to the women was a combination of her personal finances and support from other benevolent individuals intended to empower the women to get busy with their lives.
She urged them to take proper stock of their businesses so that they would be able to effectively manage them.
Paying back
She urged the beneficiaries to pay back their loans which attracted only 10 per cent interest within six months to enable others to benefit from the scheme.
Appreciation
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Madam Efua Amosah, a provisions shop owner, expressed appreciation to the MP and asked the women to effectively utilise the loans to yield results.
