Gomoa East NCCE holds meeting on sustainable peace

Mr Bayensi gave the advice at an inter-party dialogue committee (IPDC) meeting held at the Emmanuel Baptist Church at Gomoa Afransi.

He said sustainable peace and development were bedfellows, noting that since there was no substitute for peace and Ghana was bigger than any political party, Ghanaians should not fight and die for any political party but rather live to fight against illiteracy, ignorance and poverty.

Speaking on the Public Order Act, Inspector Michael Afungiba of the Gomoa Obuasi Police Station said any person who desired to hold any special event at any public place should notify the police of his intention not less than five days before that event.

He added that in a situation where a police officer after being notified of a special event but had reasonable grounds to believe that the event might lead to violence, endanger public defence, public order or violate the rights and freedoms of others, he might request the organisers of the special event to postpone it to any other date or relocate it.

Reverend Mark Arthur of the Afransi Baptist Church, who chaired the meeting, appealed to all participants to be apostles of peace by nipping in the bud any lingering acts of violence in order to sustain the peace the country was enjoying.
