Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge: Rethink what a phone can do

Once again Samsung reset the rules of the smartphone game with the introduction of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge phones. The phones were launched in Ghana about two weeks ago and to put things in simple terms, the phones make absolute sense.

Naturally, the exterior and design of the phone is the first thing people see when they look at a phone and the sleek innovative fusion of polished glass and metal means that the phone sits solidly into your hands and gives you a good grip. The phone fits perfectly in one hand and can be operated without having to continually switch positions ever so often.

Even more impressive is the fact that the Galaxy s7 and S7 Edge phones are dust and water resistant which means both phones can stay submerged in water up to 30 minutes and at a depth of 5ft without sustaining any damage. So yes, you can still conveniently administer your 6 Whatsapp groups and take part in conversations while in the shower or snap and share underwater pictures of your family in the swimming pool.

Audience at the launch had a vivid demonstration of the waterproof capability of the phone, when Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale submerged the phone in an aquarium and yet the camera of the phone still transmitted images.

The camera on the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge phones are also a vast improvement on other phones on the market. The cameras supply more light to the sensors so even in low light conditions such as evening or interior environments, the phone still delivers sharper and clearer pictures. You are definitely guaranteed a whole lot of likes on Instagram page.

Proving they are a company which has the interest of their consumers at heart, Samsung reintroduces the memory expansion feature with the S7 and S7 Edge. Both phones are fitted with microSD slots which support memory upgrades up to 200 GB. With this there is no need to worry about filling up your phone with pictures and/or videos.

All said and done what sets the S7 and S7 Edge apart is the Virtual Reality experience. Both phones are Gear VR compatible and I had the chance to experience these at the launch. The Gear VR headsets attaches to your head via straps and the portable nature of the device is ideal for transits or during downtime in school or at work.

The user interface of the VR features a series of tiles with content on them, ranging from videos, games, Netflix or apps to purchase. Navigation between option these is simple enough using a touch panel, volume button and a back button on the surface of the Gear VR. There was also a slide on top the Gear VR which helped to adjust the lens of the screen to my eyes thus providing better focus.

The VR experience immerses you in a virtual environment which immerses you in the virtual environment. The crisp and clear images reaching you will actually make you feel like you are physically in the game or movie. As much as I would have liked to try out the games I was unable to but I got to experience a virtual ocean surrounded by various undersea creatures. I had to keep tilting my head and turning around to follow the movement of the fishes.

As stated earlier my time with the Gear VR was significantly limited but this notwithstanding I was instantly hooked, as an avid football fan I wonder how it would feel to experience a football game through the device. No doubt the S7 and S7 Edge are the best ways to experience the virtual reality world.

To sweeten the deal of purchasing either the S7 or S7 Edge, Samsung Ghana giving consumers even more mouthwatering gifts and discounts via the Samsung Galaxy Gift App. Consumers have no cause to worry about damaging their phones with the Screen Insurance provided by Electracom. The screen insurance is valid for two damage repairs in one year.

The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are available at all authorized Samsung retail shops nationwide with a 24 month warranty.
