MTN launches Second Edition of Apps Challenge
MTN Ghana has launched the second edition of its app challenged dubbed MTN Applications Challenge Version 2.0.

This year’s challenge is under the theme "Promoting innovative local apps development", and seeks to encourage the development of locally based applications among Ghanaians.
Launching the event, the Chief Marketing Officer of MTN, Mr Rahul De said this year’s edition is to give opportunity to people with the skill and talent to develop user friendly mobile applications relevant to the local market.
"This platform provides an opportunity for Ghanaians who are interested in developing their own apps. MTN Apps Challenge Version 2.0 has one goal and that is to reward the most innovative and locally-relevant mobile apps developer", Mr De said.
According to him, mobile application development was creating employment and generating income for an estimated number of 2.3million people across the globe.
He however, bemoaned the fact that 92 per cent of the App developer communities were found in Asia, Europe and North America.
Mr De explained that the MTN Apps Challenge formed part of MTN’s broader agenda to grow the App developer community in Africa and also increase local content across its footprints.
MTN Apps Challenge
The MTN Apps Challenge is geared toward unearthing local talents to develop mobile applications relevant to the Ghanaian community.
The first edition saw a young software engineer, Setriakor Kwabla Nyomi being adjudged the overall winner with his Oware 3D Application. The mobile application has since been uploaded on the MTNPlay platform.
Application categories for this year’s edition include education, lifestyle and games.
The applications should be unique, user friendly and relevant to the Ghanaian market.
This year’s edition of the MTN Apps Challenge will see the overall winner receiving a cash prize of GH¢20,000, while each category winner will also receive receive a cash prize of GH¢15,000.
