The facility, owned by the military, has been adopted by the social club as their home base over the years, and club president, Samuel Ampadu-Kyei said he hoped the improved facilities would attract the youngsters to the sport.

He said until the renovation works, the state of the courts made play both difficult and dangerous.

At a ceremony graced by traditional rulers, including the Apagyahene of Asante, Nana Owusu Afriyie IV, Otumfuo Mpaboahene, Nana Yaw Owusu, the top hierarchy of the Central Command of the military and the Upper West Regional Minister, Alhaji Amin Amidu Sulemani, Mr Ampadu-Kyei said Ghana needed to embrace the 'catch them young' policy once again to groom young tennis players to make Ghana competitive internationally once again.

He expressed special gratitude to Mr Isaac Owusu, the chief executive of Isaac Books and Stationaries Limited, and Anthony Wularu, the managing director of Tonymax construction Limited, for supporting the renovation works.

He said the next step would involve fencing of the courts.

He thanked the Apagyahene, who is an architect, for doing the design free of charge.

The General Officer Commanding the Central Command, Brig. Gen. Joseph Adu Boampong, said the effort by the tennis club had brought meaning to a useful collaboration and friendship between the military and the public, and called for support to improve other facilities of the military.
