We can cause surprises

Ghana make a third successive appearance at the Mundial and Nyantakyi is convinced the Black Stars have bagged enough experience at the quadrennial gathering to be able to improve at the competition in Brazil.

“I believe that with the experience we have gained from the two previous World Cups, we are in a better position to cause more surprises”, he said.

Ghana have been pitted against Germany, Portugal and the USA in Group G and despite the tricky nature of the group, Nyantakyi believes the Stars would fare just well. “On paper we appear to be the underdogs. It was the same situation in Germany 2006.

“Then the Czech Republic was the number two in the world, Italy was fifth or so, while the United States were among the top 10.

“We were not ranked at all, yet we caused a big surprise by qualifying with Italy to the second round.

“I am hopeful that we have a good team and we are capable of qualifying to the second round. However, I believe that the expectation should probably be laced with some caution, some moderation.

“I think the mood in Ghana now should be some cautious optimism so that we are not taken unawares and we do not take anything for granted”, Mr Nyantakyi said.
